Shah Rukh Khan wants Gautam Gambhir to continue being the KKR mentor and gives him a blank cheque.

The current head coach of Team India, Rahul Dravid, is set to stand down in June, and the Board for Control of Cricket in India (BCCI) is aggressively screening applicants to take his place. Former Australia great Ricky Ponting and seasoned New Zealand player Stephan Fleming were reportedly among the leading candidates; but, because to their commitment to long-term relationships and a demanding schedule, the two did not show much enthusiasm in the role. According to a Dainik Jagran article, Gautam Gambhir, who appears to be the front-runner to succeed Rahul Dravid, is in a difficult situation.

Gautam Gambhir’s reputation in Indian cricket has grown over the past few years as two of his IPL teams have performed admirably. Under Gambhir’s guidance, the Lucknow Super Giants—a newcomer to the IPL 2022—finished third in the season. This year, however, he returned to the Kolkata Knight Riders, who are taking on the Sunrisers Hyderabad in the final.

Shah Rukh Khan's blank cheque offer

According to the Dainik Jagran report, Gautam Gambhir has shown a strong desire to take on the post. Although the owner of the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), Shah Rukh Khan, may soon make him an offer, the head coach of Team India and the BCCI Secretary does not want him to quit the team.

According to the story, Shah Rukh Khan handed him a blank check, meaning that the owner of KKR is willing to spend whatever it takes to retain Gautam Gambhir as the team’s mentor.

After retiring from cricket, Gautam Gambhir, the 2011 World Cup winner, continued to be involved in the sport by playing for a number of IPL clubs and providing knowledgeable commentary for networks like Star Sports.

After tonight’s IPL 2024 final, Gautam Gambhir is reportedly expected to meet with BCCI authorities in Chennai, where he is expected to receive an official offer for the position of coach for Team India.
